Steno (lunar crater)

Steno is a lunar impact crater that lies on the far side of the Moon. It is located to the southwest of the larger crater Marconi and northeast of the crater Sarton.

This crater is a relatively well-defined formation with a sharp, somewhat irregular rim. The inner walls display some terracing, and there are accumulations of material along the base. The interior floor is somewhat uneven with a small central peak.

Steno's rim is slightly eroded, but it lacks significant impacts that might disrupt its overall structure. The surrounding terrain is heavily cratered, typical of the lunar far side.

The crater is named after Nicolaus Steno (Niels Steensen), a 17th-century Danish scientist considered a pioneer in geology and anatomy. The name was officially adopted by the International Astronomical Union (IAU).
