Fälensee

Fälensee is a high mountain lake in the Alpstein area of Switzerland. It is located in the canton of Appenzell Innerrhoden. The lake sits at an elevation of 1,451 meters (4,760 feet) above sea level, nestled between steep cliffs and meadows.

Fälensee is known for its clear, turquoise-colored water, which reflects the surrounding mountains and sky. The lake is fed by underground springs and runoff from the surrounding slopes. There is no visible surface outflow.

The lake is a popular destination for hikers and tourists, offering opportunities for swimming (though the water is often cold), sunbathing, and picnicking. Several hiking trails lead to the lake from nearby villages, including Wasserauen and Brülisau.

A mountain hut, the Bollenwees, is located on the eastern shore of Fälensee, providing accommodation and refreshments for visitors.
