Somersault (Eggstone album)
Somersault is the third studio album by Swedish pop band Eggstone, released in 1997. It is often considered the band's most ambitious and complex work, showcasing a wider range of musical influences than their previous albums, Eggstone in San Diego and Spanish Harlem Incident. While still rooted in sophisticated pop, Somersault incorporates elements of jazz, bossa nova, and orchestral arrangements.
The album is characterized by its intricate instrumentation, layered vocals, and sophisticated songwriting. Lyrically, the songs explore themes of love, loss, and introspection, often with a melancholic and dreamlike quality. Key tracks on the album include "Wrong Heaven," "April and June," and "Jack and Jill."
Somersault received critical acclaim upon its release and is regarded as a cult classic by fans of intelligent and well-crafted pop music. Despite its critical success, the album did not achieve widespread commercial success, contributing to Eggstone's eventual disbandment. However, its influence can be heard in the work of subsequent indie pop artists.
