Slapstick (band)
Slapstick was an American ska punk band from Chicago, Illinois, formed in 1993 and active until 1996. Known for their energetic live performances and fast-paced, horn-driven ska, they were an influential part of the mid-1990s ska punk scene.
The band featured Brendan Kelly on bass and vocals, Dan Andriano on guitar and vocals, and included several different horn players and drummers during their relatively short lifespan. Initial members included guitarist James Warnecki, drummer Rob Kellenberger, and trombonist Matt Allison. Pete Anna later played trombone.
Slapstick's music was characterized by its raw, unpolished sound and lyrical themes that often dealt with youthful frustration and social commentary. Despite not achieving mainstream success, they garnered a dedicated following through touring and independent record releases.
The band released several EPs and a compilation album, Look What We Almost Had, which collected their previously released material.
After Slapstick disbanded, its members went on to form or join other notable bands. Brendan Kelly and Dan Andriano went on to play in The Broadways and subsequently Alkaline Trio, while Matt Allison became a successful record producer.
Although Slapstick existed for only a few years, their impact on the ska punk genre and the Chicago music scene remains significant. Their music continues to be discovered and appreciated by new generations of fans.
