Shooter (2016 film)
Shooter is a 2016 American action thriller film directed by Simon West and written by John Hlavin. It is based on the 2007 film of the same name, which in turn was based on Stephen Hunter's 1993 novel Point of Impact.
The film stars Ryan Phillippe as Bob Lee Swagger, a highly skilled marksman who is framed for an assassination attempt on the President of the United States. It also stars Shantel VanSanten, Cynthia Addai-Robinson, and Omar Epps.
The film follows Swagger as he goes on the run, attempting to clear his name and uncover the conspiracy behind the assassination plot. He uses his skills as a sniper and his military training to outwit his pursuers and expose the true perpetrators.
Shooter was released in theaters on November 16, 2016. It received mixed reviews from critics, who praised the action sequences but criticized the plot and character development. The film was a moderate box office success.
The film served as a pilot for the television series Shooter, which premiered on USA Network later that month, also starring Ryan Phillippe as Bob Lee Swagger. The series ran for three seasons.
