Noel Purcell (sportsman)

Noel Mary Joseph Purcell (28 December 1900 – 31 December 1985) was an Irish water polo player and swimmer. He represented Ireland at the Olympic Games on three occasions: 1920 in Antwerp, 1924 in Paris, and 1928 in Amsterdam. He was a member of the Irish water polo team each time, which did not medal.

Purcell was a prominent figure in Irish sport for several decades. Beyond his Olympic appearances, he was a multiple Irish national swimming champion. He was also a significant administrator within Irish aquatic sports, serving in various roles promoting swimming and water polo. His career spanned amateur competition and administration, contributing significantly to the development of these sports in Ireland during the 20th century.
