Shima, Mie (town)
Shima, Mie (town) is a former town located in Shima District, Mie Prefecture, Japan. As of March 1, 2005, it was merged with the town of Ago, also from Shima District, to create the new city of Shima.
The town was situated on the Shima Peninsula, known for its indented coastline and picturesque bays, part of the Ise-Shima National Park. Prior to the merger, the town's economy was largely based on tourism and fishing, including pearl cultivation and aquaculture.
