Sherman E. Burroughs (United States Navy)
Sherman Everett Burroughs (1870 – 1923) was an officer in the United States Navy. He achieved the rank of Captain.
Burroughs graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1891. He served in various roles and on various ships throughout his career. Notable assignments included duty in the Bureau of Navigation and as commanding officer of the USS New Orleans (CL-22). He also commanded the USS Delaware (BB-28) during World War I.
Burroughs received the Navy Cross for his service during World War I, specifically citing his command of the USS Delaware in European waters, escorting troop and supply convoys.
He retired from the Navy in 1922 and died the following year.
