Lady Behave (musical)
Lady, Behave! is a musical with music and lyrics by Jerome Kern and a book by Guy Bolton and P. G. Wodehouse. It premiered on Broadway at the 46th Street Theatre on December 4, 1941, and ran for 49 performances.
The musical is a revised version of Kern, Bolton and Wodehouse's earlier show, Sally, Irene and Mary, which debuted in 1922. Lady, Behave! follows the romantic entanglements of a group of wealthy young people during World War II. The plot centers on a young woman who disguises herself as a man to join the merchant marine in order to be near her fiancé. Typical of musicals of its era, the plot is lighthearted and serves primarily as a framework for musical numbers.
Notable songs from the score include "You're Here and I'm Here" and "When You're Away". Although the show had a short run, it is remembered for its pedigree, bringing together three prominent figures in American musical theatre.
