Sherbet (Sherbet album)
Sherbet is the self-titled twelfth studio album by the Australian rock band Sherbet, released in 1978. Often referred to as The Sherbet Album, it marked a deliberate attempt by the band to break into the American market.
The album features a more polished and commercially oriented sound than their earlier Australian releases. It was produced by veteran American producer, John Boylan, known for his work with Linda Ronstadt and The Eagles. This production choice reflected the band's ambition to appeal to a broader, international audience.
Key tracks on the album include "Howzat," which had been a major international hit prior to the album's release, and other singles such as "Nowhere Man" (a cover of The Beatles song) and "Another Night." The album also included original compositions by band members Clive Shakespeare, Garth Porter, and Tony Mitchell.
While Sherbet achieved modest success in the United States, reaching the Billboard 200 chart, it did not provide the major breakthrough the band had hoped for. Despite this, it remains a significant album in Sherbet's discography, representing a key moment in their career as they sought international recognition. The album's legacy is tied to its association with "Howzat" and the band's broader attempt to evolve their sound for a global audience.
