Sergio Bravo (writer)
Sergio Bravo (born in Chile) is a Chilean screenwriter, film director, and documentary filmmaker. He is best known for his contributions to Chilean cinema, particularly during the period of social and political upheaval in the 1960s and 1970s.
Bravo's work often explored themes of social justice, political resistance, and the struggles of the working class. He frequently collaborated with other prominent figures in Chilean film, contributing to a burgeoning movement of socially conscious cinema.
His most notable film is arguably El Chacal de Nahueltoro (1969), a docudrama based on the true story of Jorge del Carmen Valenzuela Torres, a peasant farmer who committed a brutal crime and was subsequently executed. The film critiques the social conditions that led to the crime and examines the justice system’s failures. It is considered a landmark of Chilean cinema and a key example of Nuevo Cine Latinoamericano.

He remains a significant figure in the development of Chilean film and a testament to the power of cinema as a tool for social commentary.
