Seimas
The Seimas is the parliament of Lithuania. It is a unicameral legislative body, meaning it consists of a single chamber. The Seimas enacts laws, approves the budget, appoints and dismisses the Prime Minister, and exercises control over the activities of the government.
Members of the Seimas, known as Seimas members, are elected to four-year terms through a mixed electoral system. This system combines proportional representation in a multi-member constituency with single-member constituencies, ensuring representation of both national and regional interests. The number of Seimas members is 141.
The Seimas is a key component of the Lithuanian political system, reflecting the country's commitment to parliamentary democracy. It plays a crucial role in shaping legislation and overseeing the executive branch. The powers and functions of the Seimas are defined by the Constitution of the Republic of Lithuania.
