Scrooge (1913 film)

Scrooge is a British silent film adaptation of Charles Dickens' novella A Christmas Carol. It was released in 1913 and directed by Leedham Bantock. The film is notable as one of the earliest screen versions of Dickens' classic story.

The film stars Seymour Hicks in the titular role of Ebenezer Scrooge. Hicks, a renowned stage actor, also played the role on stage. The film depicts Scrooge's transformation from a miserly and bitter old man to a generous and compassionate individual after being visited by the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Yet to Come.

Due to its age and the fragility of early film stock, Scrooge is considered a partially lost film. Fragments of the film have survived and are available for viewing. The existing footage offers a glimpse into early cinema's interpretation of Dickens' narrative.
