Sauteria
Sauteria is a genus of liverworts belonging to the family Sauteriaceae. These plants are generally found in moist, calcareous habitats. The genus is characterized by its thalloid structure, lacking a distinct stem and leaves.
Sauteria species typically exhibit dichotomous branching of the thallus. The upper surface of the thallus is often differentiated into distinct photosynthetic and storage regions. Reproduction occurs both sexually and asexually. Asexual reproduction can happen through fragmentation of the thallus or the formation of gemmae. Sexual reproduction involves the production of archegonia and antheridia on separate plants (dioicous). The resulting sporophyte consists of a foot, seta, and capsule.
