Sauherad

Sauherad is a former municipality in Telemark county, Norway. It was merged into the municipality of Midt-Telemark on January 1, 2020.

Geography: Sauherad was located in the traditional region of Øvre Telemark. The landscape is characterized by rolling hills, forests, and agricultural land. The Heddalsvatnet lake formed a significant part of its western boundary.

History: The name Sauherad comes from the Old Norse word Sauðaherrð, where sauði means "sheep" and herrð means "district". The municipality was established in 1838. Historically, agriculture and forestry were the primary industries.

Culture: The area boasts a rich cultural heritage, with traditional Norwegian architecture and crafts represented.

Notable Features: One of the notable landmarks in Sauherad was the Sauherad Church, a medieval stone church.

Transportation: The European route E134 highway passes through the area, providing connections to other parts of Telemark and Norway.
