Saline River (Ouachita River tributary)

The Saline River is a 202-mile-long (325 km) tributary of the Ouachita River in the U.S. state of Arkansas. It is often referred to as the Middle Saline River to distinguish it from the other two Saline Rivers in the state, the Saline River (Arkansas River tributary) and the Saline River (Little River tributary).

The Middle Saline River rises in the Ouachita Mountains, specifically in Saline County, Arkansas. It flows generally south through Grant and Bradley counties, eventually converging with the Ouachita River near the town of Moro in Calhoun County.

The river's watershed drains a significant portion of south-central Arkansas. It is primarily a blackwater river, characterized by its slow-moving current and darkly stained water from decaying organic matter. The surrounding landscape is largely forested, contributing to the river's ecological diversity.

The Saline River is used for recreational purposes such as fishing and canoeing. Common fish species found in the river include bass, crappie, and catfish. The river also supports a variety of wildlife, including wading birds, turtles, and various mammal species.
