Saint Thomas Church (Manhattan)

Saint Thomas Church is an Episcopal parish church located on Fifth Avenue in Midtown Manhattan, New York City. It is renowned for its Anglo-Catholic liturgical traditions, its prominent architecture, and its choral music program.

The current church building, the third on the site, was designed by Ralph Adams Cram in the Gothic Revival style and completed in 1914. Its limestone facade features a prominent west front with a large rose window and sculpted figures. The interior is notable for its soaring vaults, stained glass windows, and elaborate reredos (altar screen).

Saint Thomas Church has a long and distinguished history dating back to 1823 when the parish was founded. The first church building was located on Broadway. The second, designed by Richard Upjohn, was built in the mid-19th century but was destroyed by fire in 1905.

The church is known for its professional choir, the Saint Thomas Choir of Men and Boys, which maintains a demanding schedule of daily services and concerts. The choir school, Saint Thomas Choir School, is a boarding school for boys that provides its students with a rigorous academic and musical education.
