Route 11 (Paraguay)
Route 11, officially designated as Ruta Nacional N° 11 "Juana María de Lara" (National Route No. 11 "Juana María de Lara"), is a highway in Paraguay connecting the cities of San Pedro del Ycuamandiyú and Capitán Bado. It serves as a vital transportation artery in the northeastern part of the country, facilitating the movement of goods and people between the departments of San Pedro and Amambay.
The route is known for its relatively poor condition along certain stretches, particularly in the more rural sections. Ongoing maintenance and improvement projects are intermittently undertaken to address issues such as potholes, unpaved surfaces, and insufficient drainage. The quality of the road surface can vary significantly depending on the time of year and recent weather conditions, impacting travel times and vehicle wear and tear.
Route 11 plays a significant role in the agricultural economy of the region, providing access to markets for locally produced goods such as soybeans, corn, and livestock. It also connects to smaller towns and communities, supporting trade and communication in areas otherwise relatively isolated.
The highway is named in honor of Juana María de Lara, a Paraguayan patriot and national heroine known for her role in the independence movement of Paraguay in the early 19th century. She is revered for her bravery and dedication to the cause of Paraguayan freedom.
Due to its importance for regional connectivity and economic activity, Route 11 is considered a key element of Paraguay's national transportation network, despite the ongoing challenges in maintaining its infrastructure.
