Slow Death (album)
Slow Death is the fifth studio album by the American rock band, Flamin' Groovies, released in 1972 on Kama Sutra Records. The album represents a departure from the band's earlier, more overtly 1960s-influenced sound, incorporating a harder, more glam-rock oriented style.
The album was recorded after a significant lineup change, with Cyril Jordan being the only remaining original member. Chris Wilson joined on vocals and guitar, along with George Alexander on bass and Danny Mihm on drums. This new lineup steered the band in a grittier, more aggressive direction.
Slow Death features a mix of original compositions and covers, notable among them being "Slow Death," the title track, which became a signature song for the band. Other tracks include "Headin' for the Texas Border," "Have You Seen My Baby?" and "Comin' After Me."
While Slow Death was not a commercial success upon its initial release, it has since gained a cult following and is considered by many to be one of the Flamin' Groovies' best and most influential albums. Its raw energy and proto-punk sensibility have resonated with subsequent generations of musicians and fans. The album has been reissued multiple times and continues to be appreciated for its distinctive sound and historical significance within the context of the early 1970s rock scene.
