Rodrigo González (musician)

Rodrigo González (born 1950, died 1985), also known as "Rockdrigo," was a Mexican rock musician, singer-songwriter, and composer. He is considered a pioneer of Mexican rock en español, and a countercultural icon.

González was born in Tampico, Tamaulipas, Mexico. He moved to Mexico City in the late 1970s, where he began to develop his distinct musical style. His music blended rock and roll with traditional Mexican rhythms and lyrical themes that reflected the everyday struggles and realities of working-class life in the city. His lyrics often contained social commentary and dark humor.

Rockdrigo's music gained popularity in underground circles and among students. He performed in small venues and independent festivals, building a dedicated following. Some of his most well-known songs include "Metro Balderas," "Estación del Metro Balderas," "Perro en Carretera," "Ama de Casa un Poco Triste," and "No Tengo Tiempo (de cambiar mi vida)."

Tragically, Rodrigo González died in the 1985 Mexico City earthquake at the age of 35. Despite his short career, his music had a lasting impact on Mexican rock and continues to be influential to this day. His songs are often covered by other artists, and he is remembered as a significant figure in the development of rock music in Mexico.
