Roco (model railroads)

Roco is a well-known Austrian manufacturer of model railway products. The company, originally founded in 1960 by Karlheinz Rössler, produces a wide range of locomotives, rolling stock, track, and control systems in various scales, primarily HO scale (1:87) and N scale (1:160). Roco is recognized for its highly detailed models, robust construction, and innovative features.

Initially known for its plastic military vehicle models, Roco transitioned to model railroading, quickly gaining a reputation for quality and realism. Over the years, Roco has produced models representing railway prototypes from across Europe and North America.

In addition to its physical models, Roco has also embraced digital control systems, offering digital command control (DCC) systems under the brand name Z21. This system allows for independent control of multiple locomotives and accessories on a single layout.

The company faced financial difficulties and was acquired by the Modelleisenbahn München GmbH in 2008. The Roco brand has been maintained, and the company continues to develop and produce model railway products under the Roco name.
