Robin Harris (comedian)
Robin Harris (August 30, 1953 – March 18, 1990) was an American comedian and actor, best known for his stand-up routines about his experiences as a middle-class Black parent. His comedy often centered around the "Bebe's Kids" characters, based on the misbehaving children he encountered during trips to amusement parks and other outings.
Harris gained prominence in the late 1980s, performing at comedy clubs such as The Comedy Store in Los Angeles. He developed a distinct comedic persona, often characterized by his energetic delivery and relatable observations on family life and social issues.
Beyond stand-up, Harris appeared in several films, including Do the Right Thing (1989), Harlem Nights (1989), I'm Gonna Git You Sucka (1988), and Mo' Better Blues (1990). He also had television roles on shows like In Living Color.
Tragically, Robin Harris died of a heart attack in 1990 at the age of 36. His final performance was recorded at the Comedy Act Theater in Los Angeles and released posthumously as the stand-up album Robin Harris: Bebe's Kids. The popularity of the "Bebe's Kids" routine led to the animated feature film Bébé's Kids (1992), which was dedicated to his memory. His comedic influence continues to be recognized and celebrated by comedians and audiences alike.
