Volume 2 (Herb Alpert's Tijuana Brass album)
Volume 2 is the second studio album by Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass, released in 1963 on A&M Records. It followed their debut album, The Lonely Bull, and further cemented the group's signature sound, a blend of American popular music with mariachi influences.
The album continued the formula that made The Lonely Bull a success, featuring upbeat instrumental tunes characterized by Alpert's trumpet playing, catchy melodies, and a distinctive brass section. Volume 2 helped to establish Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass as a significant force in popular music during the 1960s. While not as commercially impactful as some of their later releases, it is regarded as an important stepping stone in their career, demonstrating their developing musical style and establishing their distinct sound. The album contains a variety of tunes, some original compositions and others covers of popular songs, all arranged in the Tijuana Brass style. Its success contributed to the increasing popularity of instrumental music and the burgeoning interest in Latin-influenced sounds during the decade.
