Robert Stanton (park director)

Robert Stanton is a retired American park administrator who served as the 15th Director of the National Park Service (NPS). He held the position from July 1997 to January 2001, during the administration of President Bill Clinton.

As Director, Stanton was responsible for overseeing the management and operation of all units within the National Park System, including national parks, national monuments, national seashores, and other designated areas. His tenure focused on a variety of issues, including resource protection, visitor services, and infrastructure improvements within the parks. He also placed emphasis on enhancing partnerships with local communities and stakeholders.

Prior to his appointment as Director, Stanton held a number of other leadership positions within the National Park Service. He served as Regional Director of the National Capital Region, overseeing parks in the Washington, D.C. area.
