Riverfront Park (Salem, Oregon)

Riverfront Park is a 23-acre public park located in downtown Salem, Oregon, along the east bank of the Willamette River. It offers a variety of recreational opportunities, including walking paths, bike trails, a playground, a carousel, and a natural area. The park is a popular destination for locals and tourists alike, offering scenic views of the river and the surrounding landscape.

One of the park's main attractions is the Riverfront Carousel, a hand-carved, antique-style carousel that operates year-round. The park also features an amphitheater, which hosts concerts and other events during the summer months. The A.C. Gilbert's Discovery Village, a children's museum, is located adjacent to the park.

Historically, the land where Riverfront Park now sits was primarily industrial and commercial, including lumber mills and warehouses. In the late 20th century, the city of Salem undertook a redevelopment project to transform the area into a park. This involved removing the existing structures, cleaning up the site, and creating the green space that exists today. Riverfront Park officially opened in 1990 and has since become a vital part of Salem's urban landscape. The park is managed by the City of Salem Parks and Recreation Department.
