Richard McCormack (politician)

Richard McCormack (born January 27, 1945) is an American politician who served as a U.S. Representative from the 4th Congressional District of Washington state from 1981 to 1989. A Democrat, he was elected to the House in 1980, defeating incumbent Republican Joel Pritchard.

McCormack was born in Tacoma, Washington. He attended Stadium High School and later graduated from Washington State University with a degree in political science. Before entering Congress, he worked as a staff assistant for U.S. Senator Warren Magnuson.

During his time in Congress, McCormack served on the House Science and Technology Committee and the House Merchant Marine and Fisheries Committee. He focused on issues related to energy, science policy, and the environment. He was a strong advocate for the Hanford Nuclear Reservation in his district, and supported nuclear power.

In 1988, McCormack lost his bid for reelection to Republican Sid Morrison. After leaving Congress, he worked as a consultant.
