Richard Langford (priest)

Richard Langford (born circa 1680, died 1746) was an Irish clergyman. He served as Archdeacon of Limerick from 1731 until his death.

Very little is known about Langford's early life and education. His ecclesiastical career saw him rise through the ranks within the Church of Ireland. He held various positions within the Diocese of Limerick before being appointed Archdeacon, a senior role involving administrative and pastoral responsibilities. As Archdeacon, Langford would have been responsible for overseeing the clergy within his archdeaconry, ensuring the proper functioning of parishes, and representing the interests of the diocese. His tenure coincided with a period of relative stability within the Church of Ireland, although also a time of continued social and political tension between the Protestant Ascendancy and the largely Catholic population. Langford's contributions to the diocese, beyond his administrative duties, are not well documented in surviving records. He died in 1746, leaving behind a vacancy in the Archdeaconry.
