Ranald MacDonald (bishop)

Ranald MacDonald (17 February 1788 – 20 September 1832) was a Scottish Roman Catholic bishop. He served as the Vicar Apostolic of the Highland District from 1819 to 1827, and as Vicar Apostolic of the Northern District from 1827 to 1832.

Born in Invermoidart, Scotland, he was ordained to the priesthood in 1812. On 27 July 1819, he was appointed the Vicar Apostolic of the Highland District and Titular Bishop of Aricadia by Pope Pius VII. He was consecrated to the Episcopate on 21 November 1819 at St. Mary's Chapel, Edinburgh, by Alexander Paterson, Vicar Apostolic of the Lowland District.

In 1827, the Highland and Lowland Districts were reorganized. MacDonald was appointed Vicar Apostolic of the newly created Northern District on 23 February 1827. He served in this role until his death in Preshome on 20 September 1832.
