Rainbow Lake (Arizona)

Rainbow Lake is a man-made reservoir located in the White Mountains of Arizona, near the town of Pinetop-Lakeside. Constructed in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), it serves primarily as a recreational area and a water storage facility. The lake is owned and managed by the City of Winslow.

The lake covers approximately 130 acres and offers opportunities for various outdoor activities, including fishing, boating (electric motors only), kayaking, and hiking. Rainbow Lake is stocked regularly with trout, making it a popular fishing destination. The surrounding area is characterized by pine forests and meadows, providing scenic hiking trails and picnic areas.

Rainbow Lake experiences all four seasons, with warm summers and cold, snowy winters. The lake can freeze over during the winter months. Due to its location in the White Mountains, Rainbow Lake enjoys cooler temperatures than the lower desert regions of Arizona, making it a popular summer escape for residents and tourists alike.

Access to Rainbow Lake is generally easy, with paved roads leading to the recreation area. The City of Winslow maintains the lake and surrounding facilities, including restrooms, boat ramps, and parking areas.
