Private Line (album)
Private Line is the seventh studio album by the American rock band Chicago, released in 1978 on Columbia Records. It is notable for being their last studio album to feature guitarist Terry Kath before his accidental death later that year.
The album marked a shift in the band's sound, incorporating more elements of disco and adult contemporary music, reflecting the popular music trends of the time. This change in direction was met with mixed reactions from fans and critics.
Private Line features the singles "Alive Again" and "Take Me Back to Chicago," which achieved moderate success on the Billboard charts. The album itself reached number 21 on the Billboard 200 chart.
The album was produced by Phil Ramone, known for his work with artists such as Billy Joel and Paul Simon.
Following Kath's death, Chicago underwent significant personnel changes and continued to evolve their sound in subsequent albums. Private Line is therefore often viewed as a transition point in the band's history, representing the end of one era and the beginning of another.
