Presumed Innocent (TV series)
Presumed Innocent is an upcoming American legal thriller television series developed by David E. Kelley and Matthew Tinker. It is based on the 1987 novel of the same name by Scott Turow. The series is set to premiere on Apple TV+ on June 12, 2024.
The series stars Jake Gyllenhaal as Rusty Sabich, a chief deputy prosecutor who becomes the prime suspect in the murder of his colleague and lover, Carolyn Polhemus, played by Renate Reinsve. The plot follows Sabich as he navigates the legal system and the intense scrutiny of the media while trying to prove his innocence. The series explores themes of obsession, sex, politics, and the power of doubt, and how they can impact a legal case.
The cast also includes Ruth Negga as Barbara Sabich (Rusty's wife), Bill Camp as Raymond Horgan, Elizabeth Marvel as Nico Della Guardia, Peter Sarsgaard as Tommy Molto, O-T Fagbenle as Albert Josten, and Chase Infiniti as Jaden Sabich.
The series is produced by Bad Robot Productions and David E. Kelley Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television. David E. Kelley serves as showrunner. The first two episodes were directed by Anne Sewitsky. The limited series is anticipated to consist of eight episodes.
The series is a reimagining of the novel and the 1990 film adaptation of the same name starring Harrison Ford. While the film focused primarily on the courtroom drama, the television series is expected to delve deeper into the characters' personal lives and motivations, as well as explore contemporary issues within the legal system.
