Prasiae

Prasiae (Ancient Greek: Πρασιαί) was a coastal town of ancient Laconia, located on the eastern coast of the Laconian Gulf. It was situated near the mouth of the river Amykla, and served as a port for the inland city of Amyclae.

According to Pausanias, Prasiae was one of the earliest settlements in Laconia, and its inhabitants claimed to be descended from the autochthonous Leleges. He also mentions a temple dedicated to Demeter and Kore in Prasiae.

The town is mentioned by several ancient authors, including Thucydides, who refers to it during his account of the Peloponnesian War. During the war, Prasiae was used by the Athenians as a base of operations for raids along the Laconian coast.

The exact location of Prasiae is believed to be near the modern settlement of Plaka, Laconia, Greece. Archaeological remains have been found in the area, supporting its identification as the site of the ancient town.
