Possessed (roller coaster)

Possessed is an inverted roller coaster located at Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Originally named "Superman: Ultimate Escape" when it opened at Six Flags Ohio in 2000, it was subsequently renamed "Steel Venom" after Cedar Fair acquired the park and renamed it Geauga Lake. In 2008, after Geauga Lake was converted into a waterpark, the ride was dismantled and relocated to Dorney Park for the 2009 season.

Possessed is an Intamin-built Impulse Coaster, a type of ride known for its distinctive vertical spikes at either end of the track. The ride utilizes a linear induction motor (LIM) launch system to propel the train forward out of the station and up the front spike. After reaching a near standstill at the top, the train falls backward and passes through the station again, accelerating up the rear spike. This process is repeated, with each pass building up greater momentum until the train clears both spikes entirely. Riders experience periods of weightlessness and strong G-forces during the ride.

Key features of Possessed include its dual vertical spikes reaching 218 feet (66 m) in height, the LIM launch system, and the inverted seating arrangement where riders' legs dangle freely. The ride offers a thrilling and compact experience, with a relatively short overall track length compared to traditional circuit roller coasters. After the initial launches, the train eventually returns to the station. Possessed remains a popular attraction at Dorney Park, known for its intense acceleration and unique riding experience.
