Point Blank (Nailbomb album)
Point Blank is the debut studio album by industrial metal supergroup Nailbomb, released in 1994 via Roadrunner Records. The band consisted of Max Cavalera (Sepultura, Soulfly) and Alex Newport.
The album is known for its aggressive blend of thrash metal, hardcore punk, and industrial music, featuring heavy use of samples, distorted sounds, and politically charged lyrics. Point Blank is considered a seminal album in the industrial metal genre and significantly influenced the development of extreme metal subgenres.
The recording process was deliberately raw and chaotic, reflecting the band's abrasive sound. Cavalera and Newport handled the majority of the instrumentation, with guest appearances from Igor Cavalera (Sepultura), Dino Cazares (Fear Factory), and Andreas Kisser (Sepultura).
The album's lyrical themes explore themes of violence, social unrest, political corruption, and anti-establishment sentiments. The artwork, featuring a stark and disturbing image, complements the album's overall aesthetic.
Although Nailbomb was primarily a studio project, the band performed one live show in 1995, which was later released as the live album Proud to Commit Commercial Suicide. Point Blank remains Nailbomb's most well-known and influential work.
