People's Revolutionary Army (Argentina)

The People's Revolutionary Army (Ejército Revolucionario del Pueblo, ERP) was an Argentine Marxist-Leninist guerrilla organization founded in 1970. It was the armed wing of the Workers' Revolutionary Party (Partido Revolucionario de los Trabajadores, PRT). The ERP aimed to overthrow the Argentine government and establish a socialist state through armed struggle.

The ERP engaged in a variety of activities, including urban and rural guerrilla warfare, kidnappings, bank robberies, and assassinations. They were particularly active during the periods of military dictatorship in Argentina, especially in the early to mid-1970s. One of their most notable actions was the attack on the Monte Chingolo arsenal in December 1975.

The organization suffered significant setbacks due to government repression under the dictatorship, including the "Dirty War" (Guerra Sucia). Many of its leaders and members were killed, captured, or disappeared. By the late 1970s, the ERP had been largely defeated, and its activities significantly diminished. The legacy of the ERP remains controversial in Argentina, viewed differently by various political actors and historians. Some consider them to be idealistic revolutionaries, while others condemn their violence and methods.
