Tall Tale (film)
Tall Tale is a 1995 American Western adventure fantasy film directed by Jeremiah S. Chechik. The film stars Patrick Swayze, Scott Glenn, Oliver Platt, Nick Stahl, and Roger Aaron Brown. It tells the story of a young boy, Daniel Hackett (Stahl), who disillusioned with his father's (Glenn) struggling farm, runs away and encounters legendary figures from American folklore.
Daniel finds himself drawn into a battle to protect the Western frontier from the greedy land grab of J.P. Stiles (Platt). He teams up with Pecos Bill (Swayze), Paul Bunyan (Brown), and John Henry to fight for the rights of the settlers and preserve the spirit of the American West. Through his adventures, Daniel rediscovers his belief in his father and the importance of family and perseverance.
The film blends elements of historical Westerns with exaggerated, fantastical elements characteristic of tall tales. Tall Tale features a blend of live-action and visual effects to bring the larger-than-life characters and settings to the screen. It was released by Walt Disney Pictures. While it aimed to capture the magic of American folklore for a family audience, it received mixed reviews upon its release.
