Nightflyers (TV series)

Nightflyers is an American science fiction horror television series based on the novella and collection of short stories of the same name by George R. R. Martin. The series premiered on Syfy on December 2, 2018, and internationally on Netflix on February 1, 2019.

The show is set in 2093 and follows a team of scientists and a powerful telepath who embark on a journey to the edge of the solar system aboard the Nightflyer, the most advanced spaceship ever built. They hope to make first contact with a mysterious alien race known as the Volcryn, which could hold the key to humanity's survival in the face of Earth's impending ecological collapse. However, as they journey deeper into space, terrifying and violent events begin to occur, causing the crew to question their sanity and the true nature of their mission. Paranoia, mistrust, and psychological horror unravel the team as they struggle to survive the horrors that manifest on the Nightflyer.

The series was developed by Jeff Buhler, who also served as the showrunner. It starred Gretchen Mol, Eoin Macken, David Ajala, Sam Strike, Maya Eshet, Angus Sampson, Jodie Turner-Smith, and Brían F. O'Byrne.

Despite initial anticipation due to its source material and genre, Nightflyers received generally mixed reviews. Critics often cited pacing issues, character development, and a lack of compelling narrative as weaknesses. The series was cancelled after one season.
