Peer Bork
Peer Bork is a German bioinformatician, group leader, and joint head of the Structural and Computational Biology Unit at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) in Heidelberg, Germany. He is known for his contributions to the fields of genomics, proteomics, systems biology, and computational biology, with a particular focus on the analysis of large-scale biological datasets.
Bork's research interests include protein function prediction, the identification of protein-protein interactions, the reconstruction of metabolic pathways, and the study of microbial communities. He has developed and applied computational methods for analyzing genomic and proteomic data to gain insights into biological processes and disease mechanisms. His work has resulted in numerous highly cited publications and has significantly advanced the understanding of biological systems.
Bork's group at EMBL actively participates in the development of publicly available databases and tools for the analysis of biological data. These resources are widely used by researchers in the life sciences community. He is also involved in various international collaborations aimed at addressing key challenges in biology and medicine.
