Hodge, it was primarily involved in the campaigns to liberate the Philippines and subsequently participated in the occupation of Japan.

The corps' initial assignment was in New Guinea, where it prepared for operations in the Philippines. It played a key role in the Leyte Campaign, landing in October 1944 as part of the Sixth Army. Following the successful seizure of Leyte, the XXIV Corps participated in the invasion of Luzon, landing in the Lingayen Gulf in January 1945.

During the Luzon campaign, the XXIV Corps faced heavy Japanese resistance and engaged in fierce fighting to secure key objectives, including Manila. The corps also participated in the liberation of various parts of Luzon, pushing the Japanese forces further north.

After the surrender of Japan in August 1945, the XXIV Corps was assigned occupation duties in Korea. It was deactivated on January 25, 1949. The XXIV Corps comprised various divisions during its service, including the 7th Infantry Division, the 77th Infantry Division, the 96th Infantry Division, and the 27th Infantry Division.
