Attila (horse)

Attila was a celebrated Thoroughbred racehorse foaled in 1839, known for his speed and stamina. He was bred by Richard Gurney, a prominent figure in British horseracing, and sired by Colonel (by Whisker) out of a mare by Rubens. Attila's racing career spanned from 1841 to 1843, during which he achieved considerable success.

His most notable victory came in the 1842 Derby Stakes at Epsom Downs, where he defeated a strong field. This win cemented his place in racing history and made him a highly sought-after stallion. Attila also won several other important races, including the St. Leger Stakes in 1842, completing the prestigious Derby-St. Leger double.

Following his retirement from racing, Attila became a successful stud, siring numerous winners and contributing to the development of the Thoroughbred breed. His progeny included several notable racehorses, further solidifying his legacy in the world of horseracing. Attila died in 1861.
