Patrick Hughes (filmmaker)

Patrick Hughes is an Australian filmmaker, screenwriter, and editor best known for directing action films.

Hughes gained initial recognition for his short film Signs (2008), which earned several awards. This led to his feature film directorial debut with the low-budget Western thriller Red Hill (2010), starring Ryan Kwanten.

His breakthrough into mainstream Hollywood came with The Expendables 3 (2014), the third installment in the ensemble action film franchise. Hughes subsequently directed the action comedy The Hitman's Bodyguard (2017), starring Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson, which was a commercial success. He also directed its sequel, The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard (2021).

Hughes is generally associated with directing high-octane action films that often feature humor and large casts of established actors.
