Pannonica (album)
Pannonica is a jazz album recorded in 1969 by pianist and composer Horace Parlan, featuring arrangements and performances dedicated to Baroness Pannonica de Koenigswarter. The album was released on the Enja Records label and features a quartet consisting of Parlan, Sahib Shihab on alto saxophone and flute, Wilbur Little on bass, and J.C. Moses on drums. The album is known for its melodic compositions, interplay between the musicians, and its reflective, often melancholic, mood. The tracklist includes several compositions by Parlan, as well as interpretations of tunes associated with de Koenigswarter, who was a significant patron of jazz musicians. The album is considered a notable entry in Parlan's discography and a fitting tribute to the "Jazz Baroness."
