Paddington (film series)

The Paddington film series comprises two British-French live-action/animated films based on the Paddington Bear stories by Michael Bond. The films are:

• Paddington (2014)
• Paddington 2 (2017)

Both films were produced by StudioCanal and Heyday Films, and directed by Paul King, who co-wrote both screenplays with Hamish McColl (Paddington) and Simon Farnaby (Paddington 2).

The films follow the adventures of Paddington Bear, a young, spectacled bear who travels from Darkest Peru to London in search of a home. He is taken in by the Brown family, who help him adapt to London life while protecting him from threats such as a taxidermist who wishes to add him to her collection.

The Paddington films are noted for their critical acclaim, positive reception from audiences of all ages, and financial success. Ben Whishaw voices Paddington in both films, replacing Colin Firth who was originally cast for the first film. Hugh Bonneville, Sally Hawkins, Julie Walters, Jim Broadbent, Peter Capaldi, and Imelda Staunton (as Aunt Lucy) also star in both films. Nicole Kidman played the antagonist Millicent Clyde in the first film, while Hugh Grant played the antagonist Phoenix Buchanan in the second film.

A third film, Paddington in Peru, is currently in development.
