Nustidava

Nustidava was a Dacian settlement and later a Roman fort located in present-day Romania. The name suggests a Dacian origin, with "dava" being a common suffix for Dacian fortified settlements or towns.

Historical sources indicate that Nustidava played a role in the Dacian Wars between the Roman Empire and the Dacian kingdom under King Decebalus in the late 1st and early 2nd centuries AD. The Roman army, under Emperor Trajan, conquered Dacia and subsequently integrated it into the Roman Empire.

Following the Roman conquest, Nustidava was transformed into a Roman fort, becoming part of the defensive system designed to protect the newly acquired province of Dacia from incursions by neighboring tribes. The fort likely housed a Roman garrison and served as a strategic point for controlling the surrounding territory.

Archaeological investigations at the site of Nustidava have revealed evidence of both Dacian and Roman presence, including remains of fortifications, dwellings, pottery, and other artifacts. These findings provide valuable insights into the history and culture of the region during the Dacian and Roman periods. The exact location and extent of the site are known to archaeologists, and it continues to be an important area for historical research.
