Northallerton (UK Parliament constituency)
Northallerton was a parliamentary constituency in the North Riding of Yorkshire, England. It returned one Member of Parliament (MP) to the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. It existed from 1885 to 1983.
History
The constituency was created under the Redistribution of Seats Act 1885, primarily from the northern part of the Thirsk constituency and a small part of the Richmond constituency. It was abolished for the 1983 general election, being largely replaced by the new Richmond (Yorks) constituency.
Boundaries
The Northallerton constituency comprised the Sessional Divisions of Allertonshire, Birdforth, Gilling East, and Langbaurgh East, and the municipal borough of Northallerton. This area encompassed a significant portion of the North Riding's agricultural heartland.
