North Harbour (National Provincial Championship)
North Harbour is a provincial rugby union team based in the North Harbour region of New Zealand. It participates in the National Provincial Championship (NPC), the premier domestic rugby competition in New Zealand. The North Harbour Rugby Union governs the team and is responsible for the development of rugby within the region.
The North Harbour region encompasses the area north of Auckland city, including cities such as Albany, Takapuna, and Northcote. The team's home ground is North Harbour Stadium in Albany.
North Harbour joined the NPC in 1985 when the competition was restructured, becoming part of the newly formed Division One. They have reached the NPC final on multiple occasions but have yet to win the title. Their consistent performance has established them as a competitive team within the New Zealand provincial rugby landscape.
Players who have represented North Harbour have often gone on to play for Super Rugby franchises and the All Blacks, New Zealand's national rugby team. The union focuses on developing young talent through its club and school rugby programs.
The North Harbour team is known for its distinctive colors and logo, and it maintains a strong following among rugby supporters in the North Harbour region. Their rivalry with neighboring Auckland is a significant feature of the NPC season.
