Spring River (Arkansas)
The Spring River is a popular recreational river located in northern Arkansas. It is primarily known for its cold, clear water sourced from numerous springs, making it ideal for trout fishing, canoeing, kayaking, and swimming.
The river flows generally eastward, traversing through portions of Fulton, Sharp, and Randolph counties. Its major tributaries include the South Fork of the Spring River and the Eleven Point River, the latter joining the Spring River just before it flows into the Black River.
The Spring River is managed by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, which stocks the river with rainbow trout and brown trout, attracting anglers from across the region. The river's relatively consistent flow and cool temperatures contribute to its reputation as a premier trout fishing destination.
Besides fishing, the Spring River offers opportunities for other outdoor activities. Numerous outfitters provide canoe and kayak rentals, and the river's scenic beauty draws visitors for camping and hiking along its banks. Popular access points include Hardy, Mammoth Spring, and Imboden.
The town of Mammoth Spring is located near the headwaters of the Spring River and is home to Mammoth Spring State Park, which protects one of the largest springs in the United States. The spring contributes significantly to the river's flow and provides a consistent source of cold, clear water.
