Nicolás Olivera (footballer, born 1978)

Nicolás Federico Olivera Russo (born May 30, 1978) is a Uruguayan former professional footballer who primarily played as an attacking midfielder.

Olivera began his career with Defensor Sporting in Uruguay, quickly gaining recognition for his talent and playmaking ability. He subsequently moved to Europe, playing for clubs such as Valencia CF (Spain), Sevilla FC (Spain), Real Valladolid (Spain), and Albacete Balompié (Spain). He also had stints with Córdoba CF (Spain) on loan.

Throughout his career, Olivera also played in Mexico for Cruz Azul, Atlas, and Veracruz. He returned to South America later in his career, representing Peñarol and Defensor Sporting once again, among other clubs.

Olivera was a member of the Uruguay national team, representing his country in several international competitions, including the 2002 FIFA World Cup. He also participated in various editions of the Copa América.
