Nepisiguit (electoral district)

Nepisiguit was a provincial electoral district in New Brunswick, Canada. It existed from 1967 to 1994.

History and Boundaries:

The electoral district of Nepisiguit was created in 1967 from portions of the former Gloucester County district. It was located in the northern part of the province, encompassing areas along the Nepisiguit River. Throughout its existence, the boundaries remained relatively consistent, though minor adjustments were made to account for population shifts during redistricting exercises.

Representation:

Nepisiguit elected one Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) to the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick. The riding primarily voted for candidates from the Progressive Conservative and Liberal parties.

Abolition:

The electoral district was abolished in 1994 during a major redistribution of provincial electoral boundaries. The territory formerly comprising Nepisiguit was primarily incorporated into the redistributed electoral district of Nepisiguit-Chaleur.

Succession:

Following its abolition, the electoral district of Nepisiguit-Chaleur can be seen as its successor. The name "Nepisiguit" was retained in the new district name, reflecting the geographical importance of the Nepisiguit River valley to the region.

Notable MLAs:

Records of specific MLAs who represented the Nepisiguit electoral district can be found in the official archives of the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick. A search using the riding name will yield details of elected members during its active period.
