Neon Park

Neon Park (1940-1993), born Martin Muller, was an American artist best known for his surreal and often satirical album cover art, particularly for Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention, Little Feat, and David Bromberg.

Park's style was characterized by its vibrant colors, detailed rendering, and incorporation of bizarre, often unsettling, imagery. His work frequently featured grotesque caricatures, warped perspectives, and dreamlike scenarios that blended commercial art techniques with fine art sensibilities. He drew inspiration from Dadaism, Surrealism, and pulp art, creating a unique visual language that complemented the often unconventional music he illustrated.

His most iconic album covers include Frank Zappa's Weasels Ripped My Flesh, Burnt Weeny Sandwich, and Uncle Meat, Little Feat's Sailin' Shoes, and David Bromberg's Demon in Disguise. These works are highly regarded for their originality and their ability to capture the essence of the music they represented.

Beyond album art, Park also designed posters and other graphics. His influence can be seen in the work of many contemporary artists and illustrators. He remains a significant figure in the history of album cover art and a testament to the power of visual imagery in shaping the perception of music.
